Q. I need help. How do I get started?
A. We have helpful articles and images throughout the tax software program that will walk you through, step by step: "On Screen Instruction" on every screen of the tax software. "Quick Help" button or select Help in the toolbar "User Guide" and select what you need assistance with. We even have how-to videos!
Q. Will LaserLink and/or TaxRight work on a MAC, even if I have a Windows Parallel
(virtual machine) installed?
A. LaserLink and/or TaxRight are Windows-based software programs and will not support a Mac computer, not even with Windows Parallel installed.
Q. Why can't I save the Social Security number that starts with a 9?
A. Per the Social Security Administration, payers cannot file W-2s for recipients who have Social Security numbers starting with a 9. If a W-2 is filed with an SSN beginning with a 9, the form will be rejected by the SSA. For that reason, we do not allow W-2 forms to be filed on our site for a recipient with an SSN beginning with 9.
The only SSNs given out by the IRS that begin with 9 are ITINs and, as the SSA states per Publication 15, "Do not use an ITIN in place of an SSN on Form W-2".
If you have a recipient you file a W-2 for with an SSN beginning with a 9, contact the SSA at 1-800-772-6270.

A. All of our forms are IRS approved and compatible with tax software programs using the IRS/SSA Federal Copy A formats. If you are having alignment issues, it could be that your software needs to be updated. Contact your software provider.
Q. Can I handwrite on these forms?
A. Copy A of Form W-2 is read by machine and must be typed clearly. Entries completed by hand, in script or italic fonts, or in colors other than black, cannot be read by the machines. Enter the information on Form W-2 using black ink in 12-point Courier font with no corrections made to the entries, and with no entries exceeding the size of the boxes. For general instructions for Form W-2 and W-3, visit: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw2w3.pdf
Although handwritten 1099 forms are acceptable, they must be completely legible and accurate to avoid processing errors. Handwritten forms often result in name/TIN mismatches. Use block print, not script characters. For general instructions for certain information returns, visit: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099gi.pdf
Q. I purchased the forms, but they didn't come with a template to use. How do I fill them out?
A. There is no template available to fill out forms – we suggest you purchase the LaserLink or TaxRight software to complete your tax forms or you can e-file your tax forms at efiletaxforms.com
